What Do I Put in Their Matpakke?!
Toddler Nutrition, Picky Phases & Navigating Barnehage Food with Sandra Brastein
October 1 · 11:30–13:00 · Sentralen, Oslo
What do you pack when barnehage can’t warm up their food? How do you build a lunchbox that’s actually nutritious and has a chance of coming home empty? Why has your toddler suddenly decided they hate the food they happily ate last week? And what can you actually do if you’re not happy with the food being served at barnehage?
If any of that sounds familiar, this session is for you.
After our Starting Solids gathering, nutritionist Sandra Brastein is coming back to The Village — this time we’re moving into the toddler years.
This will be a practical 90-minute session designed around the everyday reality of feeding toddlers in Norway.
We’ll talk about:
How to build a nutritionally balanced matpakke — and realistic ideas for what to actually put in it.
Working within barnehage constraints: food that needs to stay safe until mealtime, refrigeration, foods that can be eaten cold, lunchboxes and drink bottles.
Food neophobia: why toddlers can suddenly become wary of new foods — or reject foods they previously loved — and what parents can do to help them learn to like them.
Food at barnehage: what the regulations say and what parents can do when they’re not happy with the food being offered.
How to raise food concerns with your barnehage in a way that’s more likely to lead to a positive conversation — from everyday meals to birthdays, 17. mai, summer parties and other celebrations.
Plenty of time to bring your own questions for Sandra.
And this isn’t just theory. Sandra will share photos of real matpakker she’s made over the years, plus we’ll have an example matpakke to look at together so you leave with ideas you can actually use the next morning.
As always, babies and toddlers are not only welcome — they’re expected. Feed them, let them play, walk around, take a break if you need to. This is a motherhood space. Come exactly as you are. 🤍
